Isaac Marries Rebekah

Genesis 24

You’re growing up and starting to think more about the future. You might wonder what you will do, who you will become, or even who you might marry someday. This week, you’ll learn that God cares about every part of your life, including your relationships and choices. God has good plans and wants to guide you. As you study and ask questions, remember to pray for direction, rely on God’s wisdom, and trust that the right answers will come at the right time.

PLANTING THE SEED

Abraham wanted a wife for his son, Isaac, in Genesis 24:1-67. So he did what every good father at that time would do: He sent a servant to go pick out a girl. But all went well, because Abraham and the servant and the girl prayed for guidance from God. And though the passage doesn’t say Isaac was praying, it’s a safe bet.

• Do you pray for guidance from God? In what ways?

• How has God provided guidance for you?

• If he hasn’t, what do you think the problem might be?

• What can you do to open your life up to better seek God’s direction?

FAMILY FUN

Why wait until the last minute? Plan those weddings now! As a family, plan a wedding ceremony for each of the kids in the family. Everybody gets a vote in each person’s wedding! Will the family member get married while sky diving? In a huge church service? Dressed formally or in jeans? Will that family member elope? As a family, decide all the details—will there be chocolate cake or a fondue fountain? After you plan each person’s future wedding, answer these questions for the person, too.

• How about a spouse? Will everyone get a vote about who that family member marries? What will your family decide—and why?

READY, SET, GROW!

Choose a way you’ll pray for God’s direction this week.

• When you face a decision that’s difficult to make, spend time asking God for wisdom. Then wait patiently for God to guide you.

• Set an alarm 10 minutes early one morning this week. Use that time to pray for God’s wisdom and direction for your life.

• Text a friend about an area of your life in which you need God’s wisdom. Ask your friend to pray with you this week, and text your friend as God gives you wisdom. Look back later at the texts you’ve sent back and forth and remember that God gives wisdom to those who ask.
