People Rejoice as Jesus Enters Jerusalem

Mark 11:1-11

Most 5- and 6-year-olds are beginning to notice famous people, such as movie and TV actors, sports stars, and musicians. At this age, children want people to look up to and they seek out role models. They often pretend to be people of importance themselves. We know that Jesus is so much more important than any celebrity. Use this lesson to help children learn that Jesus is our King.

PLANTING THE SEED

BIBLE TIME!

This week’s Bible passage (Mark 11:1-11) tells us Jesus is our King. Two disciples went to get a little donkey that had never been ridden before, just as Jesus said. They laid coats on the donkey, and Jesus sat on it as He entered Jerusalem. The crowds recognized that Jesus was a king and praised Him with a celebration in His honor. They laid coats and palm branches along the road Jesus rode on. Your child learned to celebrate, praise, and honor our King Jesus!

KEY VERSE

“Jesus Christ is Lord” (Philippians 2:11).

BIBLE POINT

Jesus is our King.

PLAY AND PRAY

The next time you take a drive in your car, pretend you’re on the road to Jerusalem. All along the way, sing praise or offer prayers of praise to Jesus the King!

ASK

• How have you seen people praise Jesus?

• Why do you want to praise Jesus, our King?

FAITHFUL FLAVORS

Make the snack kids did in class to remind your child of the Bible passage. Have your child spread icing or cream cheese on several graham crackers, and place the crackers side-by-side on a table, like bricks on a road. Have your child make a crowd by lining teddy bear cookies on both sides of the frosted graham crackers. Then have your child drop M&M candies or raisins along the path, as footsteps on the road.

ASK

• What can be easy or hard about praising Jesus?

• What can you do to praise King Jesus this week?

READY, SET, GROW!

This week, your child learned that Jesus is our king. He or she committed to one of the following Daily Challenges to remember that Jesus is king. Help your child weave faith into life this week and follow through on the challenge!

1. Ask a family member to help you make a crown out of construction paper, and then hang it in your room to remind you that Jesus is King.

2. Build a fort in your room as a kingdom for Jesus, and ask Jesus to be your King.

3. Draw a picture of yourself praising Jesus.
