Job 38:19-20

• When you think of how fundamental light is to the survival of the human race, what do you think about the light of Christ being in you?

What’s your nightly routine? Since the dawn of TikTok, I’ve had more insight than ever before to people’s nightly routines. I’ve had more access to random Gen-Z and millennials’ skincare preferences, I’ve learned what mouth tape is, and I’ve watched strangers take off their makeup before going to bed (it’s weird what we consider entertaining these days, isn’t it?).

There’s one part of a nightly routine that feels pretty universal: turning the light off. Have you ever thought about why we turn the light off when we sleep? It’s a waste of electricity. We don’t need light to see because our eyes are closed. It’s also distracting—we turn off the lights to relax so we can fall asleep.

Sometimes, I feel like I switch off the lights in my spirituality. When I’m tired—feeling overwhelmed or anxious spiritually—I check out. I turn off the lights and want to just fall asleep. Maybe you can relate! But when I’m checked out of my faith, I’m losing opportunities to let Jesus’ light shine through me.

The Bible instructs us to let our light shine for others to see. Our job is to show the world Jesus. So don’t turn off the light. Don’t check out. Fight through the exhaustion and keep the light on.
