FRIDAY
1 John 3:1-2
• What has God promised those who recognize themselves as children of God?
The text today says that we will be like God. Now that sounds like a call back to the Garden of Eden and humanity’s first temptation. But when we read it today, it’s not a temptation, it’s hopeful. Being like God is remembering how amazing we are, how beautiful we are, how perfect we are because we are children of God, not without God. We spend so much time in comparison; we spend a lot of time telling ourselves we are not good enough, and it’s our image of ourselves that can cause us to miss the goodness God sees in us. But when we focus on God, we hear God tell us that we are wonderfully made. The more time we spend with God, the more we begin to accept the beauty that’s in all of us.
