• What’s the ultimate reason for gaining wisdom?

Growing up, I remember hearing people being called “wise guy” as a term for someone who pretended to sound smart or always seemed to know what they were talking about. It seems like people can easily get annoyed with “know-it-alls.” There’s nothing wrong with knowing more than others in the room, but the reason we seek to know more is important. Wisdom is knowing how to apply knowledge in ways that align with God’s leading for humanity. As the text says, as we gain wisdom, we know more of who God is. We don’t seek wisdom to be called “wise” by others; we seek wisdom to deepen our relationship with God so that we can care for the world around us better.
