Jesus is Born
Luke 2:1-20 | Hebrews 1:1-4
You might feel “too cool” to get super excited about Christmas. Maybe you don’t want to act like a little kid who’s all about presents and lights. The truth is, you’re not a little kid anymore—but you’re not all the way grown up either. That’s why Christmas can mean something new for you.
Instead of just seeing it as a holiday with decorations and gifts, you can start digging into the bigger questions: Why did Jesus come to earth? What does it mean that God became human? And what difference does that make in your life today?
PLANTING THE SEED
When God came to earth, you’d think there would’ve been a mansion all prepared, a royal parade with festive music, crowds of people to honor him, and posters everywhere that said “God is here!” But that’s not exactly how it happened. God came to earth as a little baby named Jesus. His parents were two regular folks, Mary and Joseph. He wasn’t even born in a NICE PLACE. Instead, he made his entrance in a stable, a barn…not exactly what you’d call luxury. There wasn’t a parade or huge crowds, just shepherds…oh yeah, and a heavenly host of angels. (Luke 2:1-20; Hebrew 1:1-4)
• How did the shepherds show their faith in God?
• What does Jesus’ birth mean for the world?
• How has Jesus’ birth changed your life? What difference has it made?
FAMILY FUN
As a family, take some time to focus on Jesus during your Christmas celebration. Before you open any gifts, begin the day by putting a candle in a breakfast coffeecake and singing “Happy Birthday to You” to Jesus. Then spend a few minutes in prayer together, thanking God for the gift of his Son.
READY, SET, GROW!
Celebrate Jesus’ birth this week:
• JUST as Jesus humbled himself to become a child, think of how you can show humility to someone else this week. Perform some chores your parents weren’t expecting, apologize sincerely to a friend or other person you may have hurt, or come up with your own act of humility.
• ASK a trusted adult or friend about what Christmas means to them. Reflect on how their reason is similar or different from yours. Thank God for the gift of God’s love that is given to all people!
• JESUS said, “I am the way and the truth and the life.” This week, write one way that Jesus is for you the way, one way He’s the truth to you, and one way He’s the life for you.
