Introduction
Bible Point: Give cheerfully to God.
Key Verse: “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
Big Picture: Give something to God from your heart.
Planting the Seed:
Even teachers have questions! A famous religious leader named Nicodemus came to Jesus to ask questions. But he feared what his other teacher types would do if they knew he was talking to Jesus. So Nicodemus came to Jesus at night. Then, Nicodemus found out why Jesus had come to earth—because God sent him to save us from our sins. Some church history folks think Nicodemus became a secret follower of Jesus. It could be, but the real question is, “Have you—or will you—follow Jesus?”
Ready, Set, Grow!
Choose a way to cheerfully give to God this week:
- I will set aside at least 10 percent of the money I get this week (10 cents out of every dollar) to give to God at church.
- I will work with my family to gather food we can donate to help feed hungry people in our area.
- I will find someone who needs help and offer to help that person as a way of giving to them and to God.
Family Fun:
Plan a family “giving journey.” First, choose who you’d like to give to as a family, and then decide on what you’d like to give. Plan a simple timeline for when you’ll begin and end the time of giving. Have fun giving as a family!
