“Don’t forget to wear sunscreen!” Hunter’s mom yelled as he shot out the door. He waved at Mrs. Torkelson, Nate’s mom, who was taking them to the beach for the day. Opening the Toyota door, he greeted Nate with an excited grin.

“Ready to catch some serious air today?” The day was just about perfect—the water was cold but felt perfect in the late July heat. Their surfboards were waxed and ready to shred, and pretty early on, Hunter and Nate both caught some air, much to the concern of Mrs. Torkelson. The burritos they snagged for lunch were perfect fuel for the pre sunset session. They even made some friends out in the waves.

The only thing that wasn’t sublime woke up Hunter the next morning with an urgent burning on his cheeks and forehead. He ran to the bathroom and cupped cold water, hoping it would soothe the aching feeling in his face. As he pulled his head up and looked in the mirror, he saw the result of not listening to his mom: an angry sunburn that covered his face. There was no hiding it; his mom would soon learn that her son had not heeded her advice. The evidence was all over his face.

When we’ve been in the sun, the evidence sometimes shows up on our skin. When we’ve been with Jesus, the evidence is also there: in our actions, our expressions, our patience, our love. Acts talks about this, and it’s true today just like it was true back then: when you spend time with Jesus, the world can tell.
