People Rejoice as Jesus Enters Jerusalem

Bible Point:

Jesus is our King.

Key Verse:

“That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:10-11).

Big Picture:

Honor Jesus every day this week.

People Rejoice as Jesus Enters Jerusalem

Mark 11:1-11

You know what it’s like to have heroes. You might look up to athletes, musicians, or people who do amazing things. You might even follow what they do or talk about them with your friends. This week, you’ll learn that Jesus is the greatest person to look up to. Jesus is a true leader and a loving king who is worthy of all honor.

PLANTING THE SEED

At least during this passage of Scripture, the people had the right idea and praised Jesus as he entered Jerusalem. They didn’t quite know what to do with this man, but they spontaneously praised him with lots of palm branches being laid down and “Hosannas!” being shouted. What can we learn from their act of worship for the king? We can honor God here and now! Think about it.

• How can you make honoring Jesus a daily practice?

• What in your life stands in the way of honoring Jesus?

FAMILY FUN

After dinner, spend time singing praise songs to Jesus. Then discuss the things that you, as a family, can give to Jesus to honor him as your king. When you have a list, think through the realistic possibilities. Then plan a time you can, either symbolically or actually, surrender them to Jesus.
