Isaac Marries Rebekah

Genesis 24

You are growing and learning so much right now! You are starting to make more choices on your own and try new things. This week, you will discover that real strength comes from trusting God’s wisdom and following God’s way. Trusting God is not weak. It is the best way to live with courage and faith every day.

GROWING IN TRUTH

PLANTING THE SEED

Abraham was now very old and wanted his son Isaac to begin a family within God’s chosen people. Knowing this was an important decision, Abraham sent his most trusted servant back to their homeland to find the right wife for Isaac. At a well, the servant prayed for wisdom and asked God to show him the right woman—someone kind enough to give him water and also his camels. Before he even finished praying, Rebekah arrived! She did exactly what he had asked God for. The servant’s heart leapt—God had answered his prayer. When he told Rebekah’s family how God had led him, they agreed this was from the Lord. When asked if she would go, Rebekah said yes with faith and courage. She trusted God’s call and followed. When Rebekah met Isaac, it was love at first sight! Because Abraham, the servant, and Rebekah each trusted God, His plan for His people continued to unfold.

BIBLE POINT

Pray for God’s direction.

KEY VERSE

“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him” (James 1:5).

ASK YOUR FAMILY

• How can we seek God’s direction?

• When has God given you direction in your life?

• In what situation can your family seek God’s direction?

FAMILY FUN

Use a piece of poster board to make a family map. On your map, draw or write about times in the past God has led your family in making decisions. Then draw or write about decisions your family may face in the future. Hang your map in a prominent place, and remember to thank God for giving you wisdom and direction.

READY, SET, GROW!

Choose a way you’ll seek God’s direction for your life this week:

• Put a blank destination on your map. Then ask God to help you fill that in with a way to serve and love others.

• Every morning when you wake up this week, ask God to guide you through your day.

• Pray with your family for God to guide all of you when you don’t know what to do.
