The Israelites Escape From Egypt

Exodus 11:1-12:36

This week, you will explore what freedom really means. Some kinds of bondage are easy to picture, like being locked up, while others are harder to see. This study looks at how sin can affect relationships with God and with others, and how walking with Jesus leads to freedom and restored relationships.

PLANTING THE SEED

Sometimes, when captivity lasts a long time, it can start to feel normal, even when it is painful and wrong. That may have been part of what the Israelites felt in Exodus 11:1–12:36. God acted to bring deliverance, and the Passover showed that freedom and rescue come through trusting and following God. The story also points forward to Jesus, who sets people free from sin and leads into a new way of living grounded in love.

FAMILY FUN

Hang a piece of rope on the refrigerator. Through the week, ask family members to hang on the rope things that God has freed them from. At the end of the week, spend time together reading and praising God for the ways God has brought freedom to your family.

• Talk to a trusted adult about what it means to be free to live in God’s love and to be a Christian. Then ask Jesus to help you live in the freedom He offers.

• On a separate sheet of paper, write down each time you feel worried or nervous about something this week. Each time you write something down, spend 20 seconds asking Jesus to show you what freedom could look like in that situation, such as courage, peace, truth, or a loving next step. Then tear up the sheet of paper with your burden on it.

• If you feel like you are living in Jesus’ freedom, draw or paint a picture that shows what it feels like to be free.
