Bible Point: Follow Jesus!

Key Verse: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile” (Romans 1:16).

Big Picture: Kids will find meaning in following Jesus, even when it’s difficult.

Planting the Seed:

Jesus was speaking plainly about His coming suffering and crucifixion, as well as His rising from the dead. The Apostle Peter took Jesus aside and criticized Him for talking in such a way.

Jesus quickly made it clear that nothing—and nobody—would interfere with His following God and doing what He had come to earth to do. And Jesus made it clear that to follow Him, His disciples must have the same purpose.

• What are the things your family is absolutely committed to doing?

• How would a neighbor know your family cares about those things?

• How would a neighbor know your family cares about Jesus?

Ready, Set, Grow!

Choose a way you’ll commit yourself to following Jesus this week:

- Treat a family member or friend with love when it’s difficult to love that person.

- Make a plan to give something up, such as playing video games or watching a TV show, to spend more time with Jesus.

- Pray and ask Jesus to help you follow Him by showing you how to love others this week, and then follow through with it!

Family Fun:

Follow the Fumbler! Blindfold one member of the family, and crown that person “Family Fumbler” for this activity. Ask that person to lead you to another room on the opposite side of your home. Everyone in line has to do what the Family Fumbler does. When you reach your destination, discuss these questions as a family:

• Why doesn't it make sense to follow a blindfolded person?

• What obstacles did the Family Fumbler encounter?

• How is following a blindfolded person through the house like following someone who doesn’t know Jesus’ love?

Finish up with a rousing game of Follow the Leader. Take turns leading, with the youngest

person going first and the oldest person going last.
