2 Corinthians 4:7-18
He is risen! He has risen indeed! So, what does it look like for us to live in the wake of the resurrection? While we live knowing that Jesus is risen, and in anticipation of the second coming, our lives in the meantime as citizens of God’s kingdom should constantly reflect what New Testament scholars often refer to as the “already, but the not yet.” We do not have to wait for the Second Coming to begin to live the life of the kingdom, but we do so in a world that is not yet made new. Today’s passage is one of those places in Scripture where Paul describes what that experience is often like. Take a few moments to slowly and thoughtfully read through his description, paying attention to those parts that speak to you in a particularly meaningful way today. As you do so, reflect on the following:
• In what ways have you been aware of the “jars of clay”-ness of your walk with God lately?
• How does the realization of the resurrection and the reality that Jesus is indeed alive change our perspective as we navigate the challenges we face?
• What can you relate to in the language of verse 16?
• How does verse 18 serve as a guiding light in our walk with God?
• What has been most helpful to you when it comes to keeping your eyes fixed not on what is seen but what is unseen? How do you experience that?
• How does the language in Hebrews 12:1-3 reflect the same sentiments and add to the richness of what is shared here?
Once again, take a few moments to talk with God in prayer about your reflections on this passage, and what it may be stirring in your thoughts and in your heart.
