Psalm 33
• How can you honor God?
For the word of the Lord is right and true;
he is faithful in all he does.
The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
the earth is full of his unfailing love.
The Bible boldly states that “the earth is full of [God’s] unfailing love.” Some days, I feel the truth of this statement in the deepest part of my soul: seeing my best friend become a mom, a bouquet of lilies delicately opening after a few days in a vase, or the silent but palpable sound of snow hitting the ground.
Some days, this statement feels distinctly naive, if not untrue: the days where everything goes wrong, the days of tragedy and grief, loved ones passing away, a closeup view to poverty, homelessness, and addiction. The world sometimes feels entirely unloving.
Perhaps that’s why the sentence before reminds us that God loves righteousness and justice. And what is a more sterling example of justice than God’s people being a soothing salve to the wounds of the world? Maybe God’s love is not just acts of divine intervention, but God’s people divinely intervening on behalf of our brothers and sisters?
The earth is full of God’s unfailing love–and sometimes, that means us.
