Scripture: Galatians 3:26-28
• How are Christians of different cultures united in Christ?
I grew up in a traditional black church. We sang hymns each week, and on youth days, we would do a massive gospel band. The music was beautiful, and I felt a deep connection to God through the worship we experienced week after week. I began attending my first non-black church during my college years. It was difficult for me to connect to the way people did things, the style of music, the tone of preaching—everything was different. I wanted to stop attending church and do my own thing because the culture of the new community I was in was different from what I had been accustomed to. After some time of reflection and prayer, I realized that, despite cultural differences, God remains the same. Every culture has a way that it connects with God, and no way is greater than another. We can be united in Christ across various cultures because it is the same loving Christ who is present in all cultures. It’s the same Christ who came to Earth for all people, the same Christ who showed all of humanity how to care more. So even though the approach may be different, the One being approached is the same. Let us be connected by focusing on the same God.
