Romans 8 tells us that we face no condemnation thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice. The Greek word for “condemnation” is katakrima. While we’d probably think of the term condemnation as being judgmental or critical, the Greek term is more focused. Katakrima is a courtroom word—it’s the legal findings of a jury against the defendant. Therefore, this word connotes less subjectivity and more factual objectivity. (You either are or you aren’t convicted of a crime—it isn’t an opinion; it’s a fact.)

So when the Bible says that we are not condemned through Christ, take it as a fact. The next time you feel unworthy or are spiraling about a wrong you’ve made, remember that the Bible has declared you innocent thanks to Jesus.
