God Protects Moses

Exodus 1:1-2:10

Parents and loved-ones put in tireless effort to keep their children safe. Many protective items such as outlet covers and gates are set around children to keep them safe. Children may view these boundaries as restrictive and unfair because they don’t understand the benefits, or the consequences. Use this lesson to remind children that God protects them through many different people such as teachers, parents, and grandparents

BIBLE TIME!

Exodus 1:1 —2:10 tells us that when the Israelites became numerous in Egypt, Pharaoh ordered every baby boy to be thrown into the river. Moses’ mother hid him in a basket and put it in the river. The Pharaoh’s own daughter found the baby floating in the river and decided to keep him. As a result, Moses’ mother got to care for her own baby boy! Remind your child of God’s loving arms of protection that surround and care for us every day.

God protects us.

PLAY AND PRAY

Moses’ mother did what she could to protect her child and then trusted God to keep him safe. As a parent, you do the same. Take a safety walk with your child around your house. Hold him or her by the hand and talk about how God protected Moses and wants to protect him or her, too. When you go for a walk near the street, for example, ask your child the rule about crossing the street. Remind your preschooler of your love and protection. You can walk through the garage, and to other potentially dangerous areas, and talk about those areas as well.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURES

All children love to jump into the arms of a trusted adult in a swimming pool. When your child leaps into your arms, remind him or her that your protection is similar to God’s protection. God helps your child stay safe from harm just like he did for Moses.

This week, your child learned that God protects us. Your child committed to one of the following challenges to remember that he or she is protected by God every day. Help your child weave faith into life this week and follow through on the challenge!

• Tell your parents or grown-ups “thank you” for helping to keep you safe.

• If you get scared at night, hold the baby Moses you made and say, “God always protects me.”
