TUESDAY
Exodus 3:1-12
Which idea do you like better: that God’s will is mostly about being a certain kind of person in the world who lives with integrity as you follow God, or that it’s about finding and following a very specific blueprint that maps out in detail what God wants you to do in every area of life? Meaningful general guidelines or specific detailed directions? Which one of those describes the way you have experienced God’s will in your life? Yesterday we looked at those questions through the eyes of Genesis 1 and 2. Today’s Scripture passages invite us to look at those questions through the lenses of Exodus 3, where God seems to have something rather specific in mind. Read through the passage and then reflect on the following:
• How specific does God’s will seem to be in this passage about his plan for Moses?
• How would you describe what Moses did in order to become aware of God’s will for his life?
• As you think about Moses’ life before this (review chapters 1 and 2 if you need to) how does God’s leading seem similar or different from chapter 3?
• As presented in this passage, how would you describe what finding and living out God’s will looks like?
• As you think about how you think about God leading in your life, do you tend to gravitate more toward the Garden of Eden model (yesterday’s devotional) or the call of Moses model? Why?
• In what ways do you tend to experience your own sense of God leading you?
Take a few moments to share with God in prayer what’s on your mind, or how you feel about the way you are understanding how God leads in your life.
