Jesus Walks on Water

Matthew 14:22-33

You’re learning so much about what it means to believe and trust. You might not be asking all the big, hard questions yet, but you’re starting to understand who God is and how God cares for you. Sometimes you might wonder if God really hears your prayers or cares about the little things in your life. This is a great time to start discovering that the answer is yes.

This week you’ll see that faith means trusting even when things feel a little uncertain. You don’t have to have everything figured out to know that you are loved and never alone. As you keep learning and growing, you’ll start to notice how God’s love and presence show up in your own life. You are part of something special, a big team of people who are all learning to trust and love God together

GROWING IN TRUTH

PLANTING THE SEED

Jesus had sent the disciples across the lake as He stayed to pray. As the disciples fought the wind, Jesus walked out to the boat—right on the water! No wonder the disciples thought they were seeing a ghost. Peter must have thought it looked like fun because he asked Jesus if he could join in. Jesus told Peter to come on out. But Peter did what we so often do when things around us get rough. He started thinking about the wind and stopped just looking at his Lord.

When he began to sink, Jesus quickly reached out His hand and helped Peter. That’s just like our God; even when we doubt, God reaches out to help us along.

BIBLE POINT

Jesus helps us believe.

KEY VERSE

“If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself” (2 Timothy 2:13).

ASK YOUR FAMILY

• Have you ever had doubts about God? Talk about them.

• What do you do when you’re struggling with doubt?

• How has God proven to be faithful in your life?

FAMILY FUN

Using a large sheet of paper, make a timeline with your family. Mark down every event that you can think of in which God was faithful to you or to a member of your family. Hang the timeline, and point family members to it whenever they doubt that God will take care of them.
