Jesus Walks on Water
Matthew 14:22-33
It is normal to have doubts, especially during this time in your life. You are growing and changing in so many ways—physically, emotionally, and mentally— that it can be hard to tell what will last and what will change. You might sometimes lose confidence in yourself or in God. You might wonder if you can stay committed to your faith, make the team, or measure up to someone else.
This week you will be reminded that doubt does not mean your faith is weak. Asking questions and working through uncertainty are part of how faith grows stronger. God is patient and kind, and always ready to listen. When you feel unsure, talk about it with people you trust. You are not alone, and you do not need to hide your questions. God loves you completely, even in moments of doubt, and is always helping you grow into the person you are meant to be.
TRY THIS
Take a family trip to a bridge, lake, or local pool. Take time as a family to make commitments to one another to believe in Jesus, even when there’s doubt. Encourage one another to believe God will do great things if everyone is willing to take risks and attempt to “walk on the water.”
DAILY CHALLENGE
• FIND a friend who is having major doubts about God or life itself and go visit that friend, listening to him or her and offering encouragement. Be careful not to judge your friend for their doubts! Be a safe space for them to be open and honest.
• AFFIRM the “bridges” in your life by writing notes to your pastor or a parent (or even your Sabbath School leader!), thanking that person for being a bridge connecting you to God and helping strengthen your relationship with Jesus.
• WHEN faced with a difficult assignment or task this week, pray to Jesus for help and trust that he will reach out to help you.
