Jonah 1:1-3
• What sometimes scares you about sharing God with people who are different from you?
The story of Jonah begins in conflict. Jonah, a prophet of Yahweh, is told to deliver a message to the Ninevites. Jonah refuses to go on this mission and, in fact, runs away to the opposite end of the earth to avoid this calling.
The story begs the question: Why? Why was Jonah so opposed to fulfilling what God had asked him to do?
There are a lot of answers to this question, some that we will never know the answer to. But what we can glean is that the concept of being uncomfortable with, afraid of, or hating another is not a new phenomenon.
Today, you may find this phenomenon in social politics at school. It may cost you in relational capital to share Jesus with your friends because you may be seen as weird. But sharing God’s love is an integral experience of being a Christian, and it is what we are called to do. So how can you share God’s love with someone this week?
