• How does it liberate you when you know the truth?

It was almost November 7. I had never looked forward to November 7 more. Not because of a holiday, a concert, or a date, but because it was Hadley’s birthday. And on her birthday, our friend group was throwing Hadley a surprise party.

The problem was that because it was a surprise, it was also a secret. This meant that in the weeks leading up to the party, I couldn’t say anything about it to her. When we were studying together, hanging out, catching a movie…I had to keep my mouth shut. It was excruciating.

Finally, November 7 came, and the party went off without a hitch. November 8, I woke up feeling free! No more secrets: I could finally talk freely again.

Truth can feel like that. Secrets, dishonesty, and half-truths weigh us down. Jesus says truth brings freedom because truth lets you live honestly and openly. Freedom grows when you stop carrying what was never meant to be carried alone.
