FRIDAY
Colossians 1:18-20
• How does the greatness of Christ affect those of us who follow him?
“It’s truly incredible,” Mat said, shaking his head. “I never knew how powerful the brain really is.” Mat was in his third year of medical school. We were only able to hang out infrequently due to his intense study schedule, but whenever I did see Mat, I tried to ask about the classes he was taking.
This particular time, Mat was in a section of his physiology class that focused on the brain. He spoke with passion and eloquence on the supercomputer that is the brain. I sat, my attention absolutely captured. It was beyond fascinating. Though the body has many incredible functions, I was beginning to learn that the brain was the…well, brains behind it all—the brain called all the shots.
Perhaps this is why the Bible calls Christ the head of the body. Christ is the brains behind this whole gospel operation. It isn’t to say the rest of the body isn’t important—Paul specifically notes all of the invaluable parts of the body that represent us—but it is to say that a properly functioning body is one in which the brain calls all the shots. Are you truly surrendered to the idea of Christ calling all the shots in your life?
