Moses Meets God at the Burning Bush
Exodus 2:11-3:20
Kids your age like new challenges and meaningful experiences that help you feel trusted and capable. This week you will learn that being open to God’s leading is not just a duty. It is a way to take part in something loving and life giving.
When your heart is willing, God’s grace can work through everyday moments in amazing ways. Serving is not only about what you do. It is also about being close to God and living in friendship, joy, and purpose.
This week will help you see that you are part of God’s beautiful plan and that God can work through your life in special ways.
PLANTING THE SEED
Moses was really mad. He had seen an Egyptian beating one of the Israelites, and so he ended the Egyptian’s life. Moses then ran away because he was afraid Pharaoh would punish him. Yet, God was still able to use him. God understood the Israelites’ troubles. They had been treated cruelly for a long time, and they were miserable. God wanted to help the Israelites, and God chose to use Moses to do it. Moses couldn’t figure out why God chose him, but he was willing. And God promised Moses that he would not be alone and would have God’s presence with him in everything Moses did. God told Moses exactly what he needed to do and then helped Moses eventually free the Israelites.
BIBLE POINT
God can use us.
KEY VERSE
“I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:13).
FAMILY FUN
Get a gift bag for each family member. Write or draw pictures on pieces of paper about ways that you see God use different members of your family. Put your drawings and notes in a separate bag for each person in your family. Encourage everyone in the family to save his or her bag and to look inside at the notes and pictures when feeling down.
ASK YOUR FAMILY
• What did God mean when God called himself “I AM”?
• What are other names we call God?
• What are some ways God has chosen you?
READY, SET, GROW!
Choose a way you’ll allow God to use you this week.
• Talk to your parents about the talents you have, or the things you enjoy doing, and then come up with a way you can use it for God.
• Serve someone you know who needs help: a neighbor or elderly person, for example. With adult supervision, help them with yardwork, cleaning, or something else they have trouble doing on their own.
• Allow God to work through you by telling a friend about your relationship with Jesus, and invite that person to church.
