Big Picture - Introduce others to your friend Jesus.

Peter and Andrew Meet Jesus

John 1:35-42

You might wonder how you can get to know someone you cannot see. Your friends are people you can play with, talk to, and hear. Since there are no real photos of Jesus, it might feel hard to imagine what Jesus is like.

This week, you will discover that you really can get to know Jesus. When you read the Bible, hear the stories of what Jesus did, and spend time with people who love Jesus, you start to learn who Jesus is. Little by little, you build a real friendship with Jesus, and that friendship can grow stronger every day.

Ask your questions. Be curious. Keep learning. Jesus loves being your friend, and you can get to know Jesus in real and meaningful ways.

GROWING IN TRUTH

PLANTING THE SEED

Andrew and John passed Jesus along the road as they were walking. John pointed his finger toward the man. “That’s the Lamb of God!” he said. Andrew wanted to learn from the Son of God, so he asked Jesus, “Where are you staying?” “Come and you will see,” Jesus replied. The rest of the day Andrew listened as Jesus taught him about God. They became friends. Andrew just couldn’t wait to share the good news with his brother. “Simon, Simon, I’ve found Him! I’ve found the Son of God! Come and see for yourself.” Simon came with his brother Andrew to see the Son of God with his very own eyes. When Jesus met Simon, He called him by name and even knew his father’s name. Does Jesus know you as a friend? Are you part of God’s family, too? Become a friend of Jesus, and you can be part of God’s family today.

BIBLE POINT

Jesus is our friend.

KEY VERSE

“Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).

FAMILY FUN

Send a postcard, letter, or text to a family member or friend, inviting them to attend church with you and to enjoy a meal with you after the service. Have everyone participate in writing the message. Plan a special meal together that everyone can help prepare. Have each person contribute one item to the meal. The most important thing to do in preparing for your company is to pray. Everyone can pray that the visitor would decide to become a child of God. Your family can continue this tradition of inviting others to church, followed by a meal. It’s a great way to strengthen the bonds of friendship and to help others learn more about Jesus. Discuss these questions as a family:

• What happened when you first became friends with Jesus?

• What can our family do to introduce our friends and family to Jesus?

• What can our family do to grow in friendship with Jesus?
