JESUS IS BAPTIZED

Bible Point - Jesus is God’s Son.

Key Verse - “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

Big Picture - Seek Jesus to be with you in everything you do.

Jesus is Baptized

Matthew 3:13-17

Jesus is God’s Son, and Jesus is also God. That can feel like a really big idea, and even grown-ups sometimes need help understanding it. You might have questions too, and that is completely okay.

This week, you will get the chance to learn more about how Jesus and God are one. It might not make perfect sense right away, but the more you hear it, talk about it, and think about it, the clearer it will become.

As you learn, take your time. Ask your questions. Wonder out loud. You are growing your faith, and every question and every moment of learning helps those seeds grow stronger.

GROWING IN TRUTH

PLANTING THE SEED

Jesus came to the Jordan River to be baptized by John the Baptist. At first, John wouldn’t do it. He said, “You should be the one baptizing me.” John must have understood who Jesus really was. After Jesus convinced him that, for now, it had to be this way, John agreed to baptize Him. As soon as Jesus came out of the water, an amazing thing happened. Heaven opened, and the Spirit of God came down like a dove and landed on Jesus. Then, as if that weren’t amazing enough, the voice of God said from heaven, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” It was God’s way of introducing Jesus to the world.

BIBLE POINT

Jesus is God’s Son.

KEY VERSE

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1).

FAMILY FUN

Create a family timeline like the one you made in Sabbath School. Place a sheet of paper on a table. Have each family member add important events to the timeline. Then talk about how God and Jesus have been with you throughout each event. Even if your family is new to church, you can still look back and see that God was with you even before you knew much about God!

READY, SET, GROW!

Today, students committed to one of the following Daily Challenges. Help your child grow in faith this week and follow through on their challenge! (Have your child circle their choice below.)

• Break open an egg. How are the three parts of the egg like God? Talk to a parent about your discoveries; then help make breakfast!

• Think about how awesome it is that God sent Jesus to earth so that we could know Christ. Write a letter to God, thanking God for this amazing gift.

• Each day this week, pray for people who don’t know that Jesus is God’s Son. Ask God to show them this truth.
