Moses Meets God at the Burning Bush

Exodus 2:11-3:20

It’s easy to struggle with how we see ourselves. You might feel like you are not good enough or wonder if you will ever have anything important to offer the world. Sometimes these feelings show up on the outside as confidence or bravado, even when you do not feel that way inside. This week, you will learn that God created you with care and purpose. You are made with priceless and wonderful gifts, even if you do not always notice them yet. God can show you how to use those gifts in ways that bring love and goodness to others.

This study will help you understand your true worth and remind you that you have an important place in God’s story.

PLANTING THE SEED

In Exodus 2:11–3:20, God led Moses through several different situations, including situations in which Moses may have felt that God was absent. God demonstrated power and great holiness to Moses and told him of the great work God had chosen Moses to do. Although Moses felt unworthy of God’s call, God sent Moses and told him exactly what to say and do and promised to be with him.

• What do you think about God choosing Moses to save the Israelites, even though Moses was weak and had made many mistakes?

• Do you feel like Moses sometimes? What do you think about the idea that God uses people who have made mistakes?

FAMILY FUN

Have a “burning bush” gathering of your family. Have a family member share a skill or talent they lack. Then have the other family members offer to help with this weakness. Brainstorm ways in which you could be available to each other. Then practice at least one of those things during the next week.

READY, SET, GROW!

Choose a way you’ll allow God to use you this week.

• Talk to a leader at church about something you can do to help at church this week.

• Invite a friend to church this week.

• Use one of your special talents and gifts to serve others in your family or community this week.
