The Last Six: Love Your Neighbor as Yourself

In the previous lessons, we explored the first section of the Ten Commandments, which focused on intimacy with God, as well as the fourth commandment, which served as a bridge between loving God and loving others. In this lesson, we turn to the final six commandments, which focus more explicitly on human relationships.

These commandments are not simply rules for social order. They teach us how to engage with other people as bearers of the image of God. They reveal what it looks like to live a life that honors the humanity, dignity, and sacredness of others. In many ways, these commandments are about refusing to use our freedom in ways that diminish another person’s life, name, body, covenant, property, or inner peace .

At the same time, these commandments are not only practical. They also point beyond themselves. Each one reflects something deeper about the nature of God, the structure of creation, and the kind of world God desires. In this study, we will explore both the human and the deeper spiritual implications of the final six commandments.
