Moving is a lot of work. And in my opinion, it’s certifiably miserable. As someone whose passions do not include carrying heavy things and making multiple trips to and from the car, moving is one of my least favorite things about the human experience.
Yet, a few days ago, I found myself moving my husband’s and my new couch into our new apartment. The only problem was that I was husband-less, since he was out of town.
As I heaved emphatically, willing the big brown box to become about 50 pounds lighter, I awkwardly tugged it out of the trunk. Out of breath, I tried to lift it, drag it, or magically compel it to our apartment door with no luck. This continued for a while.
I was ready to give up when I heard one of the most melodious sentences ever expelled into the air: “Do you need help?”
It was a young family who spent the next fifteen minutes helping me carry in the entire contents of my car—most notably, the heavy couch. I remember feeling (dramatically) like a dream was coming true.
The Bible says that God “gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” In our walk of faith, there will certainly be heaviness, lifting, straining, and groaning. But God will also offer that sweet question again and again to us in our moments of need: “Do you need help?”
• What is one area in which you need God to renew your strength?
