It was a song that swept the music scene in the summer of 2023. And in early 2024, awards season only confirmed what the public knew: Billie Eilish had written a pop masterpiece.
But instead of the typical bouncy, rhythmic, catchy tunes we often hear on the radio, Eilish’s song was a slow, melancholic reflection on a heavy question that it takes courage to ask: What was I made for?
It’s a concept that not only titles the 2023 Grammys’ Song of the Year, but also one that invades all of our souls at one point or another. Maybe this is why the Bible has so much to say on purpose: God knew that humanity would ask about it. Luckily for us, we don’t need to stress about our purpose. We can just piggyback on God for our purpose to become clear until we know what we’re called to. God’s purpose will be revealed if we ask and are patient. “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.”
• What do you believe some of God’s purposes are for you?
