God Sends Quail and Manna

Exodus 16:1–26

Props: Feather (real or soft craft feather), small basket or bowl, white cloth or cotton balls (for “manna”), blue blanket (optional “sky”), soft bird sound (optional)

Say: God’s people were walking in the desert. It was hot. It was dry. They were tired. And they were hungry. Place your hand on your tummy.

Say: The people wondered, “Who will give us food?” But Jesus already knew. Jesus takes care of His people. Hold up the feather.

Say: Jesus made the birds that fly in the sky. He made their wings. He made their feathers. He made them flap and soar. Gently brush the feather across your child’s hand.

Say: And when God’s people were hungry, Jesus sent quail — little birds — to help them. The birds flew in and covered the camp! There was food for everyone. Flap your arms gently like wings.

Say: Jesus, Creator of birds, sent exactly what they needed. Place white cloth pieces or cotton balls on the floor.

Say: In the morning, when the sun came up, something white was on the ground. It looked like tiny flakes. The people asked, “What is it?” Let your child touch the “manna.”

Say: It was manna! Special bread from heaven. Jesus made food appear on the ground. Every day, there was enough. Spread the blue blanket gently like a sky.

Say: The same Jesus who made birds fly across the sky, the same Jesus who filled rivers with fish, is the Jesus who gives us what we need. Pat your child’s chest gently.

Say: Jesus gives us food. Jesus gives us love. Jesus takes care of me. Hold your child close.

Say: When we feel hungry…when we feel tired… when we feel unsure…Jesus knows. He sends help. He is kind and patient. Look up together.

Say: Jesus made the birds in the sky. And He cares for you. Say it with me: “Jesus takes care of me.”

Say it together: “Jesus takes care of me!”
