WEEK 2 - God Provides Water
God Provides Water
Exodus 17:1–7
Props: Smooth rock, small clear cup or basin of water, blue scarf or fabric (“river”), toy fish (optional)
Say: God’s people were walking in the desert. The sun was hot. The ground was dry. There was no water anywhere. Wipe your forehead gently.
Say: The people felt thirsty. Very thirsty. Place your hand on your throat.
Say: They wondered, “Who will give us water?” But Jesus already knew. Hold up the rock.
Say: Jesus made the mountains. Jesus made the rocks. He made big rocks and little rocks. He made every stone in the desert. Let children touch the rock.
Say: God told Moses to tap the rock. Gently tap the rock.
Say: And something amazing happened! Slowly pour water into a clear cup.
Say: Water came out of the rock! Cool, fresh water. There was enough for everyone to drink. Let children hear the water pour, and touch it gently.
Say: Jesus gave His people what they needed. Spread the blue scarf like a river.
Say: Jesus made water for rivers and lakes. Jesus filled the oceans with fish. Fish swim in the water Jesus made. Show the toy fish swimming across the scarf.
Say: The same Jesus who made fish swim in the sea made water flow from a rock. Pat your child’s chest gently.
Say: When we are thirsty or when we need help, Jesus knows. Hold child close.
Say: Jesus, Creator of fish and birds, takes care of me. Can you say that with me? “Jesus gives me what I need!”
