SCRIPTURE: Hebrews 4:14-16; John 1:5

As children, many of us played Follow the Leader, trying to step exactly where the leader stepped, even when the path became tricky. Childish games aside, there is something deeply reassuring about following a good leader. To know there is someone trustworthy whose footsteps we can follow, someone who understands the terrain because they have walked it, is an extraordinary gift of grace.

Today’s passages remind us that we have such a leader. Jesus has gone before us and promises to remain with us until the journey is complete. At the throne of grace stands One who truly understands and welcomes us there.

As you reflect on the imagery and encouragement in today’s passage, consider the following:

• What does it mean to you that Jesus truly empathizes with our weakness and knows what it is like to have identity questioned, mocked, or misunderstood?

• While some in our culture treat empathy as weakness, how might it actually reflect divine strength? In what ways can empathy become a powerful force for lifting others? You do not need to apologize for being empathetic. Instead, give thanks for it.

• How confident do you feel when you think about approaching the throne of God? What shapes that confidence, or lack of it?

• When you picture God’s throne, which words come most naturally to mind: judgment and accusation, or mercy and grace? Why does that distinction matter in the spiritual battles you face?

• As you reflect on today’s passages, what do you sense God inviting you to notice, trust, or embrace more fully?
