Q4 Week 2
Bible Point: Worship God.
Key Verse: “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile” (Romans 1:16).
Big Picture: Children will learn to worship God.
Bible Story:
This week’s Bible passage (John 2:13-22) tells us that worship is important to God. One day when Jesus went to the Temple, he found merchants buying and selling cattle, sheep, and doves. This wrong use of the Temple angered Jesus, and He drove the merchants from the Temple. This illustrates the importance that worship holds in the heart of God. Jesus wants our hearts and lives to be places of worship, too.
Play and Pray:
Brainstorm with your child different ways that you can worship God together, such as going to church, singing a song, praying, worshiping to praise music, or doing something kind for someone. Write one idea for each day of the week on a piece of paper, and put the papers in a Bible or daily devotional. Each day before or after mealtime, read the Bible or devotional, draw out one of the slips, and do the worship activity together.
ASK:
- How can we worship God today?
- Why is worship important to God?
Faithful Flavors:
Make Worship Cakes with your child to show that worship is important to God. Follow the directions on a box of cake mix, pour the batter into paper muffin cups, and bake according to package instructions. Gather the family together at the table. Set out a bowl of frosting, and give each person six M&M’s candies. After frosting the cakes, take turns worshipping and praising God by having each family member name a couple of things he or she wants to thank God for. As each thing is said, have each family member add a candy to the cupcake. Then let your child lead the family in singing a favorite worship song. As everyone eats their Worship Cakes, discuss the following questions:
ASK:
- What ways can we worship God besides singing and praying?
