Matthew 7:12

Sometimes the simplest principles are the hardest to live. Yes, life is complex, and over simplifying can cause harm. But neglecting simple, central values can be damaging, too. So what keeps us on track? Micah 6:8 names core values: justice, mercy, humility. But Jesus summarizes it with striking clarity: treat others the way you want to be treated. Pause and consider; not how you are treated, or even what you think you deserve, but how you would want to be treated, remembering that God sees you as beloved. Then take the next step: treat others as if that were fully true of them, too. Let the implications sink in.

• Do you ever struggle to believe you are fully loved by God? What’s behind that struggle?

• To what extent do you take cues about your worth from how others treat you?

• How would realizing God’s embrace change how you treat others—also God’s children?

• What would be different today if you lived Matthew 7:12 on purpose?

Take a few moments to share with God what is on your heart in prayer.
