A wise person once said, “Loving ain’t easy.” What’s funny is that that person was probably visualizing someone they liked. Can you imagine how much harder it is to be loving to someone you don’t like? Now, these verses aren’t asking us not to have boundaries. While we are to love people, God does not want us to allow ourselves to get walked on. We are to love ourselves so that we can love people better, and we can love people who are hard to love in ways that protect our hearts. At the root of it all, we must know that God loves that person we struggle to love. Love is the key to making Jesus real to people, even those we don’t like.
