John 1:1-14

As we talked about last Sabbath, and as we are reminded of in the Key Verse for the week from John 1:1, one of the unique things about Jesus is not just the context of what Jesus taught, but the reality that Jesus is the content of the message! The purpose of Jesus’ coming was not simply to supply us with a list of moral or ethical directives with which we must comply, but rather to actually come and be with us, revealing to us what God is really like. Jesus is the message! God didn’t just want to inform us; God wanted to be with us more completely and profoundly. The Scripture passage for today captures a bit of the wonder and centrality of this realization. Take a few moments to listen to how John describes this, and how he communicates the way this has impacted him and the community he is a part of.

• Listen to the way John describes how central being with the real, physical person of Jesus was to the message they were sharing. What do you notice, not only about what John thought about all this, but what he was feeling as he shared this?

• What do you think John is trying to say when he says that Jesus was with the Father and has now appeared to us?

• What is John longing for in the lives of those he is seeking to share the good news about Jesus with?

• Why do you think fellowship is so central to what John is trying to share here? What does that tell you about what God wants for us?

• How is introducing information different from introducing a person? Why does this matter?

• As you listen and reflect on this passage, what does it stir in you? Take a few moments to share what is on your heart in prayer.
