Colossians 1:15-23

What place has Jesus had, or will have, in your awareness today? It is one thing to acknowledge who Jesus is and that he is with us, but it is another to live in the awareness that not only is Jesus with us, but the awareness of who this Jesus actually is that is with us. Today’s passage reminds us of just who Jesus is as he accompanies us. We are not just living out an idealistic idea–we are walking alongside the one who holds everything together, and that being is Jesus. As you take a few moments to reflect on that realization amid today’s passage, think about these things:

• Jesus is the express image of the God of the universe! When we have seen him, we have seen the Father (John 14:6-7). We are never more realistic than when we are focused on Jesus.

• Reconciling all things is what God is doing through Jesus as revealed in the peace that comes through the cross, as Jesus absorbs the sin of the world—all that evil could do—and embraces all who will accept it.

• What speaks to you the most powerfully in the description of Jesus in this passage?

• What would be different for you today if you were to live in the awareness of the presence and character of Jesus?
