Philippians 2:1-8

Just as Jesus was foreshadowed and anticipated in the Old Testament, we are invited in the New Testament to live in the wake of the life and ministry of Jesus by living in a way that reflects him. In one respect, Jesus’ life and ministry served to foreshadow how we are called to live. This is what Paul seems to be getting at in his counsel to the church at Philippi in today’s passage of Scripture. If you have not done so already, take a few moments to read through the passage, considering how Paul invites us to reflect the character of Jesus in how we live.

• What are the qualities of being “likeminded” that Paul is describing here that speak to you the most powerfully? Why do those resonate with you?

• How would you describe the connection Paul sees between what we believe and how we live in the way we treat others? Explain.

• What seems to be the relationship between what God clearly recognizes as greatness and our desire to become great?

• When you think about your own default mindset, how does it compare with the mindset we are urged to embrace here?

Spend a few moments sharing with God what is on your heart as you reflect on this passage.
