Luke 17:6
• What difference does your faith make in your life?
The Lord answered, “If you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, ‘May you be uprooted and thrown into the sea,’ and it would obey you!
I used to read Bible texts like this and be convinced I’d unlocked a secret, spiritual hack to performing magic tricks. It would be pretty cool to make a tree completely change places! I’d close my eyes and pray super, duper hard. Please God. I’d beg. I have faith! Now move that tree in my backyard to the lake.
The tree stayed rooted. As I’ve gotten older, I read passages like this a little differently. I see what Jesus is saying not as an illusionist’s trick, but as a bold statement about spiritual accessibility. I think the message here isn’t “Here’s what you can do–it’s huge!” but more “Here’s the difference you can make–it’s huge!” All it takes is a tiny bit of faith. God’s good for the rest.
