Jacob Deceives Esau and Isaac
Genesis 25:27-32; 27:1-40
Part of growing up is figuring out who you are, and that often includes testing boundaries. Sometimes that looks like trying to get away with things, lying to parents, cheating at school, or spreading rumors. These choices can damage trust and rebuilding that trust is often hard and painful. Over the course of this week, you will be invited to think ahead about your choices and where they lead. Learning to see the consequences before you experience them can help you make wiser decisions and protect your relationships.
TRY THIS
As a family, search the news for a story of someone who either told the truth or lied. Read the story together, and discuss the consequences of honesty or dishonesty for that person and for the people around him or her.
DAILY CHALLENGE
• IF you’ve recently lied to someone, fess up, even if it seems as if it’s the hardest thing possible. Ask the person for forgiveness after telling the truth.
• FORGIVE someone who has recently been dishonest with you. Be kind and patient, and approach him or her with gentleness. Ask your mom, dad, or Bible study leader for advice on how to do this with grace.
• MEMORIZE Proverbs 12:22, and each time you get out of the shower write down “12:22” in the steam in the mirror to remind yourself of the verse.
