MONDAY
John 1:3-5
• Why do we sometimes reject Jesus’ authority in our lives?
Have you ever heard the phrase “memory of a goldfish?” This phrase is used to describe someone who is chronically forgetful, as the colloquial perception of goldfish is that they have a memory of three seconds: almost nonexistent. (This is incorrect; goldfish have a memory of up to five months!)
Sometimes in my faith, I feel like a goldfish. Whether I forget all that God has done for me within three seconds or five months, I am a chronic forgetter. I think this contributes in a big way to my reluctance to surrender authority to Jesus. I think if we remembered all the ways in which Jesus has strengthened us, uplifted us, and blessed us, we would be more willing to surrender to Him.
Every day this week, wake up and remind yourself of the things God has done for you in your life. See how it shifts your relationship with Jesus by the end of the week.
Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
