Colossians 1:21-23
Mindsets can be powerful filters through which we see the world and those around us. Perhaps you have experienced this when trying to communicate with others, or even discovered how this can sometimes cause you not to really see or hear where someone else is coming from. In today’s passage, Paul addresses the significance of changing from a mindset that resists what God is inviting us to, to one that embraces it. Maintaining a mindset change is not always easy, but it is what we are offered and what we are called to.
As you reflect on today’s passage, consider the following:
• How would you describe the change in mindset that comes to us in response to seeing God’s love poured out to us in Jesus? What shifts?
• Paul suggests that faith and hope both play important roles in how we maintain this shift in mindsets. How does faith help us do this, and what does continuing in faith look like?
• What does it mean not to move from the hope held out in the gospel? What is that hope that grounds us?
• What role does the centrality of the gospel play in keeping our mindset properly focused?
• To what extent do you find faith (trust) and hope powerful forces in keeping you focused and on track? How might those things become more central to you and your experience?
Take a few moments to share with God in prayer about how faith and hope are being experienced and expressed in your walk with God.
