Joseph Dreams Disturbing Dreams

Genesis 37:1-11

Everyone comes from a different kind of family. Some families feel loving and supportive, where it is easy to feel cared for. Other families can feel stressful, painful, or really hard to live in. God can work through all kinds of families, even messy ones. Just look at Joseph’s family story! As you go through this week, remember that you are not alone. If you ever need to talk about your family or ask for help, it is okay to reach out to a trusted adult who wants to listen and support you.

TRY THIS

Write each family member’s name on a separate slip of paper. Put the slips of paper into a bag or other container, and have each person choose one slip. If anyone chooses his or her own name, put it back and try again. Don’t tell anyone whose name you chose.

Throughout the next week, it is your mission to be extra nice to the person whose name you chose. Think of it like a “Secret Santa” game, except you don’t have to spend any money on gifts. Just show extra kindness. At the end of the week, see if your family members can guess who chose their names. Talk about these questions:

• What was difficult about this exercise in kindness?

• What was easy?

• What was fun?

• What was it like to be treated so special?

DAILY CHALLENGE

• SHOW love to a sibling by giving them the choice next time you argue over something.

• SHOW love to your parents by making them dinner one night—and doing the dishes!

• GIVE out all your coupons from your Sabbath School activity—and make sure to honor them when your family cashes them in!
