WEDNESDAY - Devotional
Amos 5:11-14
• God feels pretty strongly about his people doing what is good, what is right. What can you do to address the injustice or wrongdoing you see around you?
Huddled in a puffy coat, I shuffled my way through Times Square when a bellowing voice cut through the circling noise. “GOD PUNISHES INJUSTICE!” their signs read, as the group loudly protested the war going on in the Middle East.
The rest of my day was full of sightseeing, but I couldn’t stop thinking about the protest I’d seen earlier. What did God think of justice? Injustice? My reflections led me to various texts I knew in the Bible well: Jesus’ words about the poor, the prophets’ strong admonitions against exploiting the vulnerable, Yahweh’s promise to deliver the Israelites from their oppression…it was always there in the text. Why hadn’t I ever really done something about it?
What injustice is God nudging you to address? What healing is God asking you to bring to the world? The more we study Scripture, the more it becomes abundantly clear that God feels strongly about God’s people doing good in the world. How will you do good today?
