(Answer the question/s below in your app notes)
• In what way is our relationship with God similar to that of a parent with a small child?
Have you ever tried explaining quantum physics to a two-year-old? How about having a geopolitical conversation with someone who hasn’t finished kindergarten? Discussed Toni Morrison’s literature with a preschooler?
These conversations would be, in a word, torturous. Not because the preschooler is stupid, the kindergartener unfocused, or the two-year-old undisciplined. It would be miserable because the comprehension levels would be far too low to contribute or understand the subjects at hand.
This is a hard but necessary part of faith: understanding that we don’t understand. God is omniscient above all human comprehension, and that means that we must surrender to not knowing and simply trusting. In the same way a toddler doesn’t understand the biology of NyQuil but will gulp it down at his mother’s instruction, we must sometimes follow God’s prodding even when it doesn’t make complete sense. Because just like the mother nursing her son back to health, God is always looking out for our best interest. We must learn to trust God’s heart so we can follow God’s instruction.
