God Gives the Ten Commandments (Part 1)

Bible Point:

We can honor God by paying attention to and following God’s leading.

Key Verse:

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts” (Deuteronomy 6:5-6).

Big Picture:

Focus on honoring God through your life.

God Gives the Ten Commandments (Part 1)

Exodus 19:16–20:21

What role do rules and boundaries play in everyday life? This study invites you to explore the first four commandments and consider how they function as guidance rather than restriction. As the week unfolds, reflect on how these commandments shape faithfulness, relationship, and trust with God, and what it might look like to see God’s law as an expression of care rather than control.

DAILY CHALLENGE

Choose one or more of these Daily Challenges to do this week.

• Choose one thing you’ve been placing above God. Intentionally set it aside for one week.

• Honor God’s name this week by avoiding taking it in vain. Instead, look up names of God online, and praise God with a different name each day.

• Keep the Sabbath. This coming Saturday, find a way to rest, slow down, reconnect, and worship.

FAITH JOURNAL

How does each of the first four of the Ten Commandments apply to you?

TALK WITH YOUR FAMILY

Read Psalm 117 with your family, and discuss these questions:

• How does praising God honor him?

• Can anyone be as faithful as God is? Why or why not?

• How can you avoid the traps of the world and place God above everything else?

Talk about how you and your family can renew your spiritual lives and place God above all things.
