Q4 Week 13
Bible Point: We worship Jesus.
Key Verse: Jesus is the way to God (adapted from John 14:6).
Big Picture: Children will worship Jesus with friends and family.
Note to Parents:
Children this age love to receive presents, and they get excited over the simplest things. Children also love to give presents. During this lesson, give children opportunities to tell you about special presents they’ve given and received. Tell the children about the special gifts the wise men brought to Jesus when they went to worship Him. Explain to the children that they, too,
can worship Jesus and that their worship of him is a great present.
Bible Story:
This week’s Scripture (Matthew 2:1-12) tells us that we worship Jesus. The wise men had seen the star and followed it to find the new king, bring him gifts, and worship him. King Herod heard that the wise men were looking for this long-awaited king, and it made him mad! He felt he should be the only king! He told the wise men to find this king and then return to tell him where the child was living.
The wise men found Jesus, the baby king. They gave him gifts and worshiped him. God knew King Herod hadn’t told the truth, so God told the wise men not to return to King Herod. Instead, the wise men went back home a different way, and God kept little King Jesus safe from mean King Herod.
Homespun Idea:
Choose a new way each day this week for your family to worship Jesus together. You could sing a simple Bible song such as “Jesus Loves Me,” read your child’s favorite Bible story, or pray a simple prayer.
ASK:
• What is the best part about worshiping Jesus?
• How do you think Jesus feels when we worship him?
Outdoor Adventures:
Take a leisurely drive around your city. To help your child understand that a lord or king is someone who tells us what to do and leads us in the right direction, let your child tell you when and where to turn. Toward the end of your journey, stop for a cup of hot chocolate or a sweet treat. Remind your child that Jesus is Lord of all. When we obey and follow the Lord, he brings good things into our lives.
ASK:
• What was it like to tell me which way to go?
• Who is the Lord of all?
Ready, Set, Grow!
This week, your child learned to share the story of Jesus with others. Your child committed to one of the following challenges to tell others about Jesus. Help your child weave faith into life this week and follow through on the challenge!
• GET together with some friends, siblings, or other family members and sing some of your favorite praise songs.
• TELL a friend about the wise men worshiping Jesus.
• WHEN you’re playing with your friends, siblings, or other family members, draw pictures together of Jesus or of the wise men. Trade pictures with each other, and then hang your friend’s picture on your refrigerator or in your bedroom.
