Joseph Takes His Family to Safety in Egypt
Matthew 2:13-23
High school is full of big choices and tough situations. From the first days of freshman year to the last days of senior year, you’re constantly deciding things that shape your life—who to spend time with, what music to listen to, who to date, what boundaries to set, where to go after graduation, and what kind of future you want. It can feel like no one really gets what you’re going through, not even your parents. This week’s study will remind you that you’re not alone. God is ready to guide you and can be trusted to never let you down.
GROWING IN TRUTH
DAILY CHALLENGE
Choose one or more of these Daily Challenges to do this week.
• What’s a choice you’re having a really hard time making? Pray about it throughout each day, and ask God to help you discern life-giving guidance from harmful guidance.
• Interview someone whose relationship with God you admire, and figure out how that person’s wisdom applies to your own life. Come up with a specific idea that will help you grow in your relationship with Jesus as you hear from God and listen more and more.
• As you use GPS or even drive a familiar route, reflect on how God has guided you in the past and how you can seek his guidance in the future.
FAITH JOURNAL
What is one source of bad guidance in your life? How will you shift your focus to the true guide, God?
TALK WITH YOUR FAMILY
In Psalm 136, the psalmist recalls God’s faithful guidance. Read this psalm with your family, and then identify several examples of both big and little ways God has guided your family. Create a timeline illustrating God’s guidance in your family’s life, and record all the examples you can think of. Between each one, write “His love endures forever.” Then discuss these questions with the members of your family:
• Is it ever scary to trust God’s guidance? What’s an example?
• Based on our experiences, why can we trust God’s guidance?
• How does recalling God’s past guidance help us see current tough choices in a new way?
Post the timeline on the refrigerator to serve as a reminder of God’s faithful guidance.
