Psalm 30:8-10
• When have you known that God heard you and knew your needs?
This is an interesting question. There are two things I have to be honest about when I think about this question. First, I believe that God always hears me, and second, I don’t always know what I need. I remember when I was in elementary school, when I got on the school bus, I would pray, “Please Lord, help my mom know to buy us Burger King after school.” It makes me laugh when I think about how earnestly I would make this prayer weekly. But when I reflect on this prayer with how I see things now, I am confident God heard my prayer. Whether I said it out loud or it sat in the silence of my desires, God knew I wanted this to happen. And yet, I did not need this to happen. But try not to limit God’s response to only what we need or don’t need. Try thinking of it this way: thank God when you have the things that you need, knowing that God listens to us whether we ask or not. All this to say, when I pause and I see how the needs in my life are met, I thank God, because I believe that without God, I would have none of these needs met.
